How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Photoshoot
Ten Things to Know Before Your Boudoir Session
1. Stay Hydrated
Drink lots of water 24-48 hours before your photoshoot. It will help you have a natural glow and make your skin look radiant. If you aren’t peeing every couple of hours you aren't chugging enough ;)
2. Rest and Sleep
While I’m on my health lecture, make sure to head to bed early to get a good night's rest. If you’re feeling anxious try doing a breathing exercise or a five minute meditation.
3. Tanning
Avoid getting a spray tan the week of your photoshoot, they can cast an orange hue on your skin that looks unnatural in photographs. Self-tanners also tend to have streaks so steer clear of DIY options in the days leading up to your session.
4. Hair Down There
If you are going to wax, be sure to do it a week prior to your photoshoot. If you are planning to shave, try to do it the night before for best results.
5. Deodorant
Your arms will be above your head, hands in your hair, and your armpits will be seen. Stick deodorants can leave white marks under your arms and can pill up when you sweat. Try using a clear deodorant (gel or spray) or skip it all together.
6. Moisturize Everything
Slather yourself in your favorite body oil or layer up with lotion. Moisturized skin will give a natural glow whereas dry skin will look dull. Feel free to bring some to your photoshoot if you want to add more right before we start your session.
7. Clean Your Nails
You don’t need to go bet a mani/pedi but make sure your nails are clean and trimmed. There will be several detailed shots that will include your hands and fingers. Dirty nails can be a distraction.
8. Avoid Restrictive Clothing
Wear loose clothing before your session to avoid lines for when you take your clothes off. Hair ties on your wrist, tight jeans, and bras will all leave little indents on your body. This is your permission slip to show up in your baggy home sweats!
9. Eat a Real Meal
I think you might be surprised at how much you will be moving throughout your session. Avoid hanger and have a full meal before your session: protein, carbs, and fats included.
10. Be Open to the Experience
I know this feels like a vulnerable and scary thing to do. However, it will also be one of the most empowering acts of self-love you will ever experience. It’s okay to feel fear when you walk into the studio but I promise you will leave feeling lighter yet stronger than ever. Let go, give in, and have fun.
